Growing a business is hard

There are no shortcuts to success. But, and it's a big but, there are proven stategies to make life easier and success more certain.

1 - Customers

It might seem obvious, but without customers there is no business.

Yet too many business owners spend too much of their time doing what they do and too little time marketing what they do. Every business depends on the business owner being able to get and keep customers.

The only reliable way to get and keep customers is to set aside time to do just that. Time away from doing the do, time away from the phone and time away from admin.

2 - Making time

As business owners we are all busy people. But the reality is that we need to find time every day when we can be uninterruptible. A block of time (ideally 90 minutes) to work exclusively on getting and keeping customers.

Only when we are regularly spending time growing our business will our business actually grow.

3 - Good at marketing

Most business owners started their business because they has a skill. Something they can make or fix.

• Plumbers fix people's plumbing
• Dentists fix people's teeth
• Accountants fix business' numbers
• Architects create building plans

You get the idea...
This is what we mean by "doing the do".

In every business there needs to be some doing the do. But the temptation is to only do the do. To spend all the time servicing the client's plumbing, teeth, numbers or plans.

Successful business owners, however, ensure that there is time set aside every day to do the things that will grow the business and that means marketing.

4 - Get help

Just as every successful sports person has help from coaches, managers, doctors, etc., so business owners need help.

Fortunately, here in Coventry the Entrepreneurs Circle (EC) meeting is on hand to help you with everything you need to grow your business and create success. The Meetings are just a small part of help and support available to members.

EC Local meetings are exclusively for EC members but you can join for FREE and come along to your first meeting as well as try out everything the Entrepreneurs Circle has to offer.

5 - Work on yourself

Successful people in every walk of life work hard on themselves. They practice, they read, they learn from others. Building a successful business is no different. You need to work on becoming a better business owner and better at the task of being at the helm of your business.

The competition is not outside of you. The competition, more often then not, is within you. Don't strive to be better then the next person. Rather, strive to be better than you were yesterday.
